We've got ourselves another in-house Yard Sale this coming weekend! Swing by the warehouse on Saturday or Sunday (February 11 & 12) for great deals on all products! We've got some extra special love for our blemished decks, too! All decks deemed "less-than-perfect" by our crew members will be discounted to 30% off. Everything else in the warehouse will be 15% off.

Keep in mind that this is an in-store only sale. (Sorry, non-locals!) If you're not in the southern California area, you should (1) plan a radical road trip or (2) find a SoCal friend to mail you some goodies! The Yard Sale is happening from 12-5p each day, so plan accordingly!

Earthwing's 2012 SuperModels Have Landed! [This Just In]

We have just received the first shipment of the 2012 Earthwing SuperModels! (Notice I did not say "our first shipment"... I'm talkin' about the first shipment. Woo!)

For the year 2012, Earthwing has created four versions of the SuperModel to grab your attention, get your toes a-twitchin', and make your wallets wiggle in your pockets. (Good thing they're all coming in at under $100 per deck!) As you see above, there are three drop through models: two 40" in 8 & 9 plies of top notch maple, and one at 38" in 8 plies of the good wood. But, wait, what about the one without the cutout? Is that — No, it couldn't be... Yes! It is! It is a drop platform SuperModel measuring in a 40" by 10" and 9 plies thick.

Here we see the shoulder of the drop platform SuperModel. Notice the foot notch on the left and the routered channels to the bottom right. The foot notch will help keep your feet from moving down the rail during a slide and the routered channel serves as a convenient early grab support brace for all you launch ramp fanatics out there. All four version of the SuperModel feature these same details along with the rad-nasty intestinal Earthwing graphic.

"The drop!" you say. "Show me the drop!" Ok, fine. Here you go! As you'll see it's there, but it's not enough to stop you from flipping those 360 shove-its with ease. The placement of the drop and the low angle involved give the ends a feeling of rocker without actually having it present. (This helps keep your knees in alignment... You know, for when you get old and stuff. Unless you already are... Then it's just good in general!)

And here we have the concave shot. As is mentioned at the Earthwing site, "There is a deep elliptical concave that is deeper near the trucks". This concave gives a really locked in feeling, and because it's gradual (and doesn't change dramatically at any point) it will be a great choice for riders of all shoe sizes.

And last, but certainly not least, the nose has been extended for the drop through versions of the 2012 SuperModel. This may not matter much to some of you reading this, but for those of us who enjoy trying to manual our entire parking lot, this is kind of a big deal. Not only does this change mean easier to manage manuals, but the wheelbase has become slightly shorter, too, giving the board a more responsive feel than the older models.

Holiday Card Contest! Time to get crafty... [Updated]

The 2011 holiday season is upon us. This can only mean one thing! Ok, fine, so it really can mean a number of things... But, c'mon, I'm only typing this for one of those reasons... It's time for a (longboarding themed) Holiday Card Contest!

We are looking for your best homemade holiday card for whichever wintry event you choose to honor. We want to see your best work in the form of Christmas Cards, Chanukah Cards, Kwanzaa Cards, Ramadan Cards, Thanksgiving Hand Turkeys, Winter Solstice Moons, New Years Hats, Boxing Day Tests, and Wintersday Drops! Send whatever you want to create however you would like to create it. Sure, it's called a "card" contest, but we'll accept pretty much any other crafty items (snowflakes, etc) as acceptable submissions as well.

The MuirSkate.com crew will select one Grand Prize Winner and one Runner-Up from all the submissions. The winners will be announced once we're finished shipping orders on December 19th.

Runner-Up will receive a MuirSkate × Landyachtz "Twelve Two Five" Longboard Deck
Grand Prize will receive a $500 MuirSkate Credit to use however he or she pleases.

The only requirements for the contest are (1) make it longboarding themed and (2) use the MuirSkate.com "Wings" logo somewhere on your card. (This way we know you're making for us and not just buying it from Hallmark.)

We will be posting submissions to our Facebook page ~~as they come in~~ once they're all in so you'll know that we've received yours. (Although it won't be a community vote this time.) Feel free to "like" and share whichever submissions you choose, but the winners will ultimately be decided by the MuirSkate crew.

This contest is open to residents of the US, Canada, Australia and Puerto Rico.

"Wheels Up" Longboarding Photo Contest Guidelines

Show us your early grabs, your G-Turns, your artsy board-in-a-tree shots, your sick-nasty launch ramp steeze, your shralptastic big spin, your signature Tail Whip, or whatever else you come up with. As long as the photo contains at least two wheels in the air, you're good. Ok, now let's get onto the guidelines!

R U L E S
Post your photos of longboards with at least two wheels in the air! That's it. That's the rulez. (Please Note: Boards in the background do not count toward the two wheel minimum, but we've got a lot of "Art Kids" around here who may be able to vouch for you if your photo is rad and is "supposed to be like that". That being said, just try to keep the wheels-in-the-air as the subject of the shot.)

We want to see you bringing the steeze and cheese in a safe manner. We are selecting the photos that we like, and we happen to like helmets. Helmets protect our brains from impact, explosions, and pterodactyls. Please, wear a helmet. We have many friends who have been seriously injured in longboarding accidents and if it weren't for their helmets they wouldn't be around today. (If you're submitting a non-action shot such as a scenery, holding the board in the air, etc. a helmet is less necessary. We'll be the judge of when it's appropriate or not, so you might as well just wear one all the time.)

We're not looking for photos that you found on the internet, we want you to get out and take them! Only post photos that you have the rights to. If you didn't take the picture, you must (a) be the rider in the photo or (b) have permission from the photographer.

This contest is open to residents of the US, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Australia.

Submit your photos to the wall at Facebook.com/MuirSkate and if we're impressed, you've got yourself a shot at the prize(s). Can't decide between your favorites? Feel free to submit as many photos as you want. It'll help spread the stoke and give you more chances to get picked! Be sure to have your photos up by September 24th at 9pm PST so we don't overlook them when we're making the final cut.

Two winners will be selected: One will be selected by the MuirSkate crew. Another will be selected by voting from the MuirSkate Facebook community through the "Like"-based voting system we've all come to know and love.

More New Stuff: Rotule Longboards now on our shelves!

Yet another big day in the world of MuirSkate.com inventory: Rotule Longboards are now gracing us with their presence!

It's been more than a few months since we were introduced to the guys over at Rotule Longboards and we are still impressed by the quality of their boards. As soon as we got to know them and began chatting it up about their deck construction, we realized just how serious these guys are about their craft. Sure driving many thousands of miles in a car that doesn't seem like it could get up the coast and back certainly serves as evidence enough of an extreme dedication, but the quality of each board speaks for itself. Not only do their most recent creations feature such lovely details as an exposed fiber weave, a cherry wood veneer, and double carbon fiber layering, but each board is beautifully designed to be chock full of concave and aggressive wood bending to give you the exact right mold to lock you in to your standups and predrifts.

It didn't take very long before we were taking our own Speed Karrot out for a test run down a local favorite. Right away we could appreciate the maneuverability given by the massive concave and the stability given by the drop platform. We had it set up with 195mm Paris Trucks and some Yellow Orangatang 4Presidents and we took this board down through the ringer many times over. Multiple sessions on "Big Booty" and repeatedly slamming the board into curbs did very little damage to the board over all. Like I said, we were impressed and we still are. Anyway, on to the photos!

If you don't set up your board to be fully symmetrical, a nicely centered logo won't
really help remind you that you're riding it backwards. But it still looks alright to me!

By the looks of this drop, you'd think this board was hot...

Just a small glimpse into the 3D concave on the Rotule Desert Eagle.
In order to appreciate it fully, you may want to put this on your holiday wish list... Now.

A few weeks have gone by since we've selected the winners for our Main Event contest and we've got (nearly) everything settled. At our last meeting, we mentioned that we'd be throwing some support to the Boomtown Freeride Event Part 2: Moon Mountain. That is not quite the case since that event was very quick to follow our decision, so we switched it up a bit: We're going to be making an appearance at Part 3 of the BoomTown Freeride Series on August 20th!

Our Next Contest: The Shirt Stencil Contest! [Facebook Contests]

Do you like to make stencils and/or cut designs into your grip tape? Do your classmates and/or friends get lightheaded when they hang out with you because you reek of spraypaint? Do you always seem to have a multi-colored index finger? Does your Residence Hall Advisor yell at you because the entire building ends up smelling like spray paint even when you spray your designs outside but then the wind blows the smell back in and you swear that you weren't spray painting your boards inside the building but then she says "I'm not an idiot, Seth. I saw you in the common area with a cloud of paint dust around you!" Are you the next Thierry Guetta? Or possibly even the next Banksy?

If you answered "Yes!", "Maybe...", "No", "What?" or "Who?" to any of these questions, then this contest is most certainly for you!

We're looking for the raddest MuirSkate and/or longboarding related stencil that we can spray on a box of shirts. Our favorite stencil designs (somewhere between 8-12) will be posted to an album on our Facebook page for the MuirSkate.com community to decide which stencil is the best. The winning stencil will earn its creator a complete Sector 9 Downhill Division Natasha Longboard.

Grab your X-Acto knives, an adult (if you're a youngin'), some quality stencil cutting materials, a large envelope and send your stencils our way! Here are the technical guidelines:

Technical Guidelines!
(1) If you're a youngin', please have an Adult or Guardian help you cut your stencil.
(2) Choose your stencil material wisely! (Although cardstock is easy to cut, it won't last very long!)
(Good Examples: http://www.stencilease.com/db/index.asp?catagory=blank%20stencil%20material&all=1)
(3) Send your stencil our way in a well-supported envelope/package. It's not our fault if your stencil is ripped, creased, or rendered unusable in transit.
(4) Send your stencil READY-TO-SPRAY. We're not going to cut out your design for you!
(5) The size is up to you, but it'd be cool if the design is roughly 8"x 8" with some extra space around the edge to hold it.

Sticker Design Contest Winner Announcement

It's been a wild and fun several days since the Sticker Design Contest has come to an end. We've been busy building and shipping custom completes, filming for the Double Dervish video, and holding numerous board meetings for a little bit of R&D. Considering all of that, we'd like to think that we're just "fashionably late" with the results... Anywho, here we go!

We're all aware of the insane number of votes tied to our "Most Likes" winner. (Currently it's above 800, but as of the end of the contest it was at slightly over 700 in Likes)

Attention SoCal & Neighbors: Yard Sale & Warehouse Sale Comin' Up!

Come get your hands on some sweet deals!
June 18th & 19th from Noon-5pm we'll be putting up some tables behind our warehouse to move some "less than perfect" inventory that we're not comfortable sending out to our online customers. This means there will be some boards with funny drilling patterns or scratches, wheels with "Speed Dimples", and trucks with shipping dings for you to come and snag. There are a large number of decks that will be put out on the tables and an assorted amount of other shredworthies.
Oh, yes, I should also mention that all products purchased in the warehouse during the sale period (non-yard-sale items) will be 15% Off.

Light refreshments will probably be provided, so grown ups take note: Don't forget your favorite stein or flagon! For the almost grown ups in the crowd, we'll set you up with a Red Bull as long as your chaperone says it's cool! Muir Skate's Pre-Summer Sticker Contest

We’re running low on our sticker stockpile and it’s almost time to order another batch. But since we’re busy building and shipping custom completes, we need some help with a design! We’re turning to you, the community, for your help. Design our next sticker(s) and win some rad gear! Two designs will be selected and each winning artist will receive an Earthwing SuperModel Complete.

General Rules

Stickers designs must include the words “Muir Skate” and use a maximum of three (3) colors (black/white/red, white/green/blue, etc). Feel free to submit as many different entries as you like!

Post your sticker to the wall at Facebook.com/MuirSkate and mention “Muir Skate Sticker Contest 2011” and start collecting your “Likes”. Two winning stickers will be printed and distributed: Most Likes (The sticker with the most likes from MuirSkate.com Followers) and Muir’s Choice (the one we, the Muir Skate crew, like the most).

The contest will run from May 20th to June 15th, with voting ending on June 15th at 11:59PM PST. The winners will be announced shortly thereafter.

Technical Guidelines
Once voting is finalized, we will get in contact with you, the winning artist(s), for the HIGH RESOLUTION file(s). To make this part of the process go smoothly:
- Save your sticker as a pdf, png, gif or jpeg. (Photoshop/Illustrator files are cool, too.)

- The higher the resolution, the better! (300 dpi minimum)

- It can be any shape and up to 8” in any direction.

MuirSkate.com presents "The Main Event" - A Nationwide Longboarding Event Sponsorship Contest (Whew! Lotsa words there...)

Fresh spring weather and sunshine have us all in the skating mood and thinking about the many upcoming contests we want to attend. Not only that, but we also have to decide which events we want to sponsor! For that reason, we have devised the “Main Event” Event Sponsorship Contest. Read through this post for all the details!

General Overview:

The MuirSkate.com crew is looking to support three (3) “local” events across the U.S. in the early summer months. All three of these events will receive goodies and prizes to give away at their events, but one event in particular will receive an extra special something. This “Main Event” is where the real fun happens. For this event, two MuirSkaters (Duke and Seth) will be hand delivering the goodies and prizes along with the help of some other special guests. They’ll also be there to help out with the event proceedings and serve as judges, if necessary. (Sure, they could ride, too! But that would be up to the riders and the event committee.)

The Contest:

As it turns out, there are a lot of rad contests going on all across the country! And many of them are coming to us for sponsorship. It’s tough to choose between them, so we’re asking for some assistance from you guys and gals in the longboarding community! We will be taking applications for events and we will post our top 10 favorite events to facebook.com/muirskate for a community vote. The three events with the most people “attending” will receive sponsorship. The MuirSkate.com team will then deliberate and discuss the top 3 events over an extravagant dinner feast in order to decide which event will be the “Main Event”! (No, you won’t have to change the name of your event if you win.)

In-Depth Stuff - Main Event Details:

We’re looking to spread the stoke and maybe even collaborate and assist in the development of an event, but certainly not take it over. While we look over the applications, we want to see what you dudes and dudettes are brainstorming for your event. If there’s something we can do to help out, cool! If not, that’s cool, too. Maybe you guys just want some products to give away... Maybe you really want “celebrity judges” to boost the stoke... Maybe there’s some big logs in the middle of your favorite road that you need Duke to move using only his left hand while Seth rescues cats from the nearby trees and powerlines after crafting those same logs into a 15 foot ladder... Maybe you just need a bit of help developing the course so it maximizes the gnar factor... Whatever it is, we’re going to figure out what we can do to help!

Because we’re booking flights and so on, we have to have a good head-start on the event date to ensure that we can get our crew to the event. The “Main Event” (and the second and third place events) can take place ANY DATE ON OR AFTER the weekend of June 18th up until September 31st.

Steps to Follow! The Application Procedure:
To be sure your entry is eligible for the “Main Event” contest, you must complete the following steps:

(1) Download the “Event Sponsorship Application” and gather the crew!

(Available starting March 17th)

(2) Fill out the application

(Must be saved in ‘.doc’ or ‘.rtf’ format)

(3) Take some time to create your event flyer!

(5MB or smaller. gif, jpg, png preferred)

(4) Email both files to: eventsupport@muirskate.com

(5) Cross your fingers, tentacles, and toes and wait for the results!

Come get your hands on some sweet deals!
January 22 & 23 and February 5 & 6 from Noon-5pm we'll be putting up some tables in front of our warehouse to move some "less than perfect" inventory that we're not comfortable sending out to our online customers. This means there will be some boards with funny drilling patterns or scratches, wheels with "Speed Dimples", and trucks with shipping dings for you to come and snag. There are roughly 50 decks that will be put out on the tables and an assorted amount of other shredworthies.
Oh, yes, I should also mention that all products purchased in the warehouse during the sale period (non-yardsale) will be 15% Off.

Light refreshments will probably be provided, so grown ups take note: Don't forget your favorite stein or flagon! For the almost grown ups in the crowd, we'll set you up with a Red Bull as long as your chaperone says it's cool! We're anticipating moving a lot of inventory, so we will be having the sale for a total of four days split between two non-consecutive weekends. Who Can Enter?
Anyone and everyone willing to mail in their entry may enter this contest. (Yes, international entries will be accepted, but for the Grand Prize ONLY.) One entry per person.

Here's the scoop:

MAIL us your best Homemade Holiday/ Winter/ Christmas/ Hanukkah/ Kwanzaa/ Chrismukkah/ Wintersday/ etc. greeting card!

It can be a hand-shaped snowflake crayon sketch or an extremely intricate depiction of your favorite winter longboarding experience. The style is up to you! Muir Skate presents "Tricks For Treats" - DEADLINE EXTENDED! Entries Due DECEMBER 15th

General Description:
Participants will submit a video performing tricks listed in "The Trick List". All applicable submissions will receive goodies based on the number of tricks performed.

Who Can Enter:
Anyone willing to learn a few longboarding tricks and submit a video executing them! All forms of skateboards are welcome. And if you need to borrow a board from a friend, that's fine, too!

International Submissions:
We don't ship internationally, but we will make one exception for this contest. Entries from outside the U.S. will be admitted into the Grand Prize portion of the contest (for Best Video) ONLY. (This means these entries are not eligible for "Treats".) Just make a sick video with the minimum number of tricks and you're set!

Every Participant Has A Shot At The Grand Prize:
The video that most impresses The MuirSkate.com Team of judges will receive a Sector 9 Super Shaka Longboard and a Sector 9 Downhill Division Lacey Longboard (One for the rider and one for the filmer... Everyone's gotta have a filming buddy right?) Our friends at Khiro Skate Products are throwing in $100 cash prize for the Grand Prize, too! At the end of the submission period, we will select The Grand Prize video from all submissions. That means if you can't bust out a Switch Toeside Standy just yet, you're still eligible to win the Grand Prize!

Three Different "Treats" Categories:

10 Tricks - All participants completing 10+ tricks will receive a 10-pack of Muir Skate PowerWings Stickers
15 Tricks - The first 50 entries to reach 15 tricks will receive a 15-pack of Muir Skate PowerWings Stickers and a contest t-shirt
20 Tricks - The first 20 entries to reach 20 tricks will receive a 20-pack of Muir Skate PowerWings Stickers, TricksForTreats t-shirt, and Khiro skate tool

Beastly Bonus! - The first five video submissions with all 20 tricks will receive a set of 70mm Fireball Incendo Wheels in addition to the stickers, shirt, and skate tool.

The "Rules":
One rider per video entry. (That means you can't split the tricks between you and your friends.) There can be others helping film, etc. Riders must wear a helmet. Videos must be as close to 2 minutes long as possible.

Submitting Your Video:
The contest deadline is now DECEMBER 15th! Entries must be: (1) Submitted as a "Video Response" to the Contest Announcement Video on the Muir Skate YouTube Channel and (2) Tagged with "Muir Skate Tricks For Treats". This will ensure your official get entry into the contest. Note: If you don't follow these steps correctly, there's no guarantee that we will ever see your video. Winner will be announced the first week of December and rewards will be sent out around then, too.

If you're having trouble with a particular trick, get talking with other riders on the discussion boards or find some helpful videos online. That's what the internet is for! If a lot of dudes and dudettes are having difficulties, we might even whip up a Quick Tip video to help out! We have a tough time with some tricks, too, so we're going to be playing along just for fun. (No, we can't win our own contest.)

Q: Can I submit an entry with less than 10 tricks?
A: Nope. It won't count. Ten tricks minimum.

Q: If I do 12 tricks, can I get 12 stickers?
A: Probably not. Stickers are intended to be distributed in increments of five.

Q: I have a friend who can do some of the tricks and I can do the others, can we put them together to make 20?
A: Nope. All tricks submitted must be performed by one person.

Q: Wait, so do I have to film and skate by myself?
A: Have a friend film your tricks and return the favor for him/her! There's a reason that two boards are included in The Grand Prize.

Q: Can I wear a mask or a costume? Or a cape?
A: Sure, costumes are encouraged! But don't try to pull a fast one... We can tell if there are two riders behind a mask.

Q: Can video submissions be more than 2 minutes long?
A: If you just have to go over 2 minutes because it's that awesome, ok. But we'll probably get distracted if it goes on too long... So keep it short and sweet!

Q: My board isn't good for G-Turns or (insert trick name here)... Can I borrow my friends board?
A: Yep! Feel free to use any boards you want. Use a different one for each trick if you want to!

Q: Do I have to do the tricks in a certain order or in the same sequence/combo/line?
A: Nope. Use your artistic abilities to mix it up!

Q: Do I have to wear a helmet?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I wear a bike helmet?
A: YES! WEAR A HELMET. Any helmet that will protect you from harm is a good idea!

Q: I'm having problems posting my video as a "Video Response" to the contest announcement video... Help?
A: Check out this link on that same topic! "How to Post a Video Response on Youtube"

Q: Does it count if I "kinda" or "almost" land a trick?
A: Almost? No. Kinda? Well... We all know what a "completion" looks like. So get the absolute best shot you can and we won't have any problems!

Q: Do I have to do all 20 tricks to win the Grand Prize?
A: Nope! All entries (with 10+ tricks) are eligible. The most impressive video out of all three categories will be selected as the winner.

Q: I say that backside is this/that way, but you guys say it's the other way! You say "po-tay-toe" I say "po-tay-heel"
A: As long as you're doing it like we are in the announcement video, it's all gravy!

Q: What if I'm tired after eating a bunch of turkey and don't submit the video by the deadline?
A: The contest deadline is November 28th. You snooze, you lose.

Q: How do I send you my address to get my goodies?

New Sector 9 Downhill Division Longboards Now In Stock At MuirSkate.com

The moment we've all been waiting for has finally arrived. The Sector 9 Downhill Division Longboard Series has finally arrived on the shelves at Muir Skate! (We currently have the Lacey, Brandy, and Roxanne in the warehouse. We'll update when we've got the rest!) There are 6 boards in total, 5 of which are pure Canadian Maple and the 6th — Sector 9 Downhill Division's "Ginger" — is a club sandwich of Canadian Maple, Carbon Fiber and an attractive acrylic base.
For those of you not already familiar with this new downhill specific line from Sector 9, here's a very brief history lesson:

Started up in 1993, Sector 9 hit the scene featuring a handful of longboards designed for those of us with an interest in maintaining our sideways stances while we make our way to and from class, work, and wherever else we might otherwise ride a bike. Since then, the brand has grown to include many series of longboards intended for different riding purposes and constructed of different materials. A few years back, word had spread on various online forums about the "new Sector 9 downhill boards". These boards may (or may not) be the prototypes for the boards we see here today, but nevertheless, the brand started this project and let it unfold naturally and without rushing into production. The boards you will see on the site today are the result of this process and have been tested again and again by some of the finest downhill longboarders to hit the scene.

If you're under the impression that the Sector 9 Downhill Division series will just be "the next fad" at your local surf/skate/board shop next to Hot Dog On A Stick, give it another thought. These boards are produced and distributed exclusively to only the finest downhill longboarding supply companies on the planet. There is no reason these boards should be taken (or ridden) lightly.
